President Cyril Ramaphosa will this evening, 15 October 2020, in his capacity as the African Union Chairperson, participate in a High-Level Event of the 2020 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group.
A pre-recorded message by the President will form part of the proceedings.
The 2020 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group are taking place virtually from 12 to 18 October 2020 under the theme: “Building a Resilient and Inclusive Recovery”.
The World Bank Group successfully championed a moratorium on debt for the world’s poorest nations and is historically financing emergency operations in 111 countries as part of its fast broad based response to COVID-19.
African Union Chairperson His Excellency President Ramaphosa will deliver pre-recorded remarks at the flagship World Bank Group event on Protect and Invest in People: Human Capital in the Time of COVID-19.
This Flagship High Level Event brings together government, civil society and business leaders to discuss the pandemic’s threat to reverse decades of progress in human capital outcomes and its exposure of inadequate service delivery across health, education and social safety nets.
Participants will also share ideas on how to protect human capital; safeguard the vulnerable; improve remote learning to ensure no child is left behind; deliver vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics for the most vulnerable; and how to strengthen health systems for a more resilient future.
