Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa visits Expanded Public Works Projects in Inanda, Ethekwini District, KwaZulu-Natal
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will, as champion of government’s Anti-Poverty Programme, visit Expanded Public Works (EPWP) projects in Inanda, Ethekwini District, KwaZulu-Natal, tomorrow, Thursday, 21 July 2016.
Deputy President Ramaphosa chairs the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Public Employment Programmes, tasked with creating employment opportunities and contributing to household income as part of a broad effort to reduce poverty.
The visit by Deputy President Ramaphosa and a delegation comprising leadership of national, provincial and local government, will provide a platform for the province to showcase implementation of the EPWP and helping communities out of poverty.
Deputy President Ramaphosa will conduct a site visit to the Durban Green Corridor, an environmental project aimed at attracting tourists to the historically interesting and naturally beautiful area around Inanda Dam. The project provides canoeing training and cycling skills to about 600 participants, alongside building skills in waste management, river maintenance and learner-teacher assistance.
Deputy President Ramaphosa will also conduct a walk-about at the Zibambele Road Maintenance Programme, an EPWP implemented by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport. Participants of this programme are community members from poor households headed mainly by single parents.
Following the walk-about, Deputy President Ramaphosa will visit the Disaster/Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) Housing Project. This project will house families that have been affected by storm disaster and those deemed as special cases by the Anti-poverty War Room. The project will benefit about 100 families upon completion.
At the conclusion of his visit, Deputy President Ramaphosa will address members of the community and interact with beneficiaries of the EPWP.
Deputy President Ramaphosa will be supported by KwaZulu Natal Premier, Willies Mchunu, the Minister of Public Works, Thulas Nxesi, the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa, the Minister of Cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Van Rooyen, the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Gugile Nkwinti, the Deputy Minister of Public Works, Jeremy Cronin, the Deputy Minister of Social Development, Bogopane Zulu, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development of Land Reform, Mashego Dlamini, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Madala Masuku, the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional affairs, Obed Bapela, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Elizabeth Thabethe, the Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela and other senior government officials.
