President Ramaphosa engages with the youth during virtual Youth Day commemoration

President Cyril Ramaphosa will today, 16 June 2020, participate in an interactive panel session with young people as part of the virtual Youth Day commemorations.

This Youth Month is marked during Alert Level 3 of the national lockdown to contain  the spread of coronavirus. As such, Government has prohibited mass gatherings including the mass celebrations/commemorations of national days.

This year’s Youth Month coincides with the 30th Anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela and takes place under the theme: “Youth Power; Growing South Africa Together in the Period of Covid-19.”

The interactive session provides an opportunity for the youth to engage first-hand with the President on various issues affecting them and also how they contribute and/or play an active role in a youth-led social and economic recovery of South Africa.

The virtual commemoration includes President’s panel discussion with four young people from different sectors made up of Jabulile Gwala: CEO and Founder of Siko Republik; Mo’s Crib founders and NYDA beneficiaries: Morongwe and Michelle Mokone, Economist and  Businesses Strategist, Ndumiso Hadebe and Khanyisile Mlanzana: Beneficiary of Harambee’s Youth Solving Youth Issues Programme, entrepreneur and innovator.

The session will be facilitated by global moderator and communication strategist, Ms Nozipho Tshabalala.

President Ramaphosa will also deliver a keynote address as part of the commemorations.

The Youth Day Virtual Commemoration will be broadcast live on television and radio and live streamed on a range of online platforms from 12h00.  Media houses will be provided with a link upon request through the National Youth Development Agency.
