President Ramaphosa to deliver the eulogy at the Special Official Funeral of the late Ambassador Billy Modise

President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow, Thursday, 28 June 2018, deliver the eulogy at the Special Official Funeral of the late former Chief of State Protocol, Ambassador Billy Modise.

The funeral service will take place at Marks Park Sports Field, across the West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg. The service starts at 09h00 and is open to members of the public.

Ambassador Modise passed away on 20 June 2018 and President Ramaphosa declared his funeral a Category 1 Special Official Funeral.

Born in the Free State Province on 8 December 1930, Ambassador Modise was affectionately known as “Uncle Billy” or “Bra Billy”.

He worked for the United Nations and later the African National Congress (ANC) appointed him as its Chief Representative in Sweden.

He also served as the first black High Commissioner of South Africa to Sweden from 1995 up until 1999 before he was appointed as the Chief of State Protocol.
