Deputy President arrives in Uganda for consultations on the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan

Deputy President David Mabuza, in his capacity as Special Envoy to South Sudan, has arrived in Entebbe, Uganda to meet President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as one of the guarantors to the Revitalised Agreement on The Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

Currently, South Sudan is in the one hundred days extension period to finalise all outstanding matters towards the formation of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity.

Deputy President is in Uganda to hold a consultative meeting with President Museveni following the Consultative Meeting of Parties held in Juba on 2-4 December 2019, to finalise the matter of the number of States and their Boundaries. Deputy President Mabuza facilitated the Consultative Meeting of Parties at the invitation of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

In the meeting, Deputy President Mabuza is expected to apprise President Museveni on the outcomes of the Consultative Meeting of Parties, and to mobilise support from the guarantor in ensuring that signatories to the agreement reach a workable agreement on the matter of States and their Boundaries. This will pave a way to the formation of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity as agreed to by signatories by the end of this window of one-hundred days extension.

“We remain confident that the parties to the agreement are committed to finding workable and lasting peace in South Sudan. This meeting with President Museveni, is therefore aimed at ensuring that all the parties are on course to form the Revatilised Transitional Government of National Unity within this extended period. Doing so, is in the best interest of the South Sudanese people, the region and the continent as a whole,” said Deputy President Mabuza.

Deputy President will also hold bilateral consultations with President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Republic of Sudan, Gen Abdalftah Alburhan A. Alrahman who is the other guarantor to the R-ARCSS.
