Acting President Mabuza to officiate at the annual South African Police Service Commemoration Day
Acting President David Mabuza will on Sunday, 01 September 2019, officiate at the annual South African Police Service Commemoration Day at the SAPS Memorial site at the Union Buildings, Pretoria.
The National Commemoration Day is hosted annually by the Department of Police in remembrance of police officers and reservists who lost their lives in the line of duty. The event also presents an opportunity for the nation to celebrate the courage and dedication of officers who laid down their lives in execution of their constitutional mandate to protect all within South Africa’s borders.
As part of the Commemoration activities, Acting President Mabuza will together with the next of kin of the fallen heroes and heroines, lay wreaths in honour of the commemorated Police personnel. Furthermore, the names of these fallen heroes and heroines will be engraved on the National Memorial Wall at the Union Buildings to signify the gratitude of the nation for their bravery, loyalty and sacrifices made to serve and protect the people of South Africa.
The Acting President will be accompanied by the Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele, Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Khehla Sitole and senior management of the South African Police Service.
